Why invest in your neighbourhood
A large part of a household's spending takes place in local businesses. Investing where you already spend follows a particular logic.
Most of a household's everyday spending takes place a few minutes from home: the bread, the coffee, the hairdresser, the grocery. The neighbourhood business is not an economic abstraction, it is a place you go to.
Investing in a business where you are going to spend anyway creates a concrete circle. Your usual spending feeds the business's revenue; this revenue feeds, in turn, your own return. Nothing changes in your everyday purchases.
Beyond the return, there is a visible effect. A neighbourhood that keeps its businesses keeps its diversity, its identity, its human bond. When residents can take part in funding the places they live, they stop being spectators of them.
